It's here!

EEEK!  I am so excited.  I ordered the Miss Maggie kit a few weeks ago and it came yesterday.  It is fabulous.  Lovely Liberty Lawn to make her dress and ears and wonderfully detailed instructions.  I knit the little capelet last evening.  Now I just have to get brave enough to start cutting the felt to make the bunny.  This is a hand-stitching project.  Only the dress will have some machine action.

Oh!  This is now a work in progress.  That's the way it is.  You blink and all of a sudden you have a bunch of things on the go.  Have a super lovely day!

Work in Progress Wednesday...

Ooo ahh!  I have to say I love the way this is shaping up.  Crossed string blocks.  This tutorial.  Lots of scraps. In between things, I added 5 more blocks to the wall on Sunday.  That makes 30 blocks done and I think I probably need about 120 blocks in total.  Eek!  That is a lot.  The strings are made from scraps and the setting triangles from stash greens.  I like green.  I have a lot of green in my stash so that won't be a problem.

Daughter is coming home for the weekend.  She arrives tomorrow with her special someone.  The house will be turned upside down and a trail of her stuff with be dropped all over the place.  I must put a box out to start throwing the trail of things into.  I can't wait!  It will be great!  I have to hurry and find the spare room under all my fabric mess.  I have spread it all over the place.  Like mother, like daughter.

Work in Progress Wednesday... the funny thing is

 Here is the funny thing.  I have no genuine works in progress at this time except a Jane Market Bag and 4 green and blue scrappy blocks made the other day.  I am completely quilt-less.  Having finished 2 quilts in the last week or so, I should not be surprised and yet it feels very odd to not have a plan or deadline or a list of quilts to go.  It almost feels liberating.  Maybe even a little scandalous.  Well, maybe not scandalous.  That  is a bit of a stretch!

Making Progress...

I managed to get the entire Garden Trellis quilt top put together, borders included.  Yay!  Husband says it looks much better with the borders and he likes it much better with that addition.  And that is a good thing.  I value his input (and I really mean that!).  Then comes the fun part.  Whatever am I going to do about the back?????  Well... I pulled a few chunks of fabric that are in the right colour family and then I saw Angela's quilt back from today on her blog.  Hmmmmm.  Inspiration!  I think that looks pretty snazzy and it is a way to approach a back when you do not have great lengths of yardage.  Very interesting!

And just in case you wondered, the borders on this quilt are white (obviously) and then Ruby dots in aqua.  This is a tiny, tiny dot... a true pin dot.  Nice!

Other than quilt stuff, spring arrived and we had a gorgeous, warm day today!  Yippee!  Husband got the rest of the garden planted except the squash and pumpkins.  They need to wait for warmer nights.

First Day of Spring!

Today is the first day of spring.  The weather is blustery with grey skies and lots of wind.  These itty bitty little daffodils did not seem to mind.  These little sweeties are less than 4" tall!

On the quilting front.  Granny Squares took over the design wall.  I had to spread out to the design drapes.  Yoiks!  I have made 30 of these pretties and am now ready to call it done.  I still have a mess of little scrappy squares though and I am debating whether these should become a scrappy pieced border.  Set on point.  Just thinking.  Haven't decided.  Just thinking.

I have to say that these squares make me VERY happy.  They shout happiness and delight when I look at them.  Can you hear them?

We have a winner!!!!

One the sewing front, I have been making a few Kaleidoscope blocks in shades of aqua and grey.  At first these were driving me CRAZY but I have it down to a science now and I can crank them out without any strangeness!  I like to challenge myself with some new blocks every now and then.  Enough about that...

Design Wall Monday... a work in progress

Well.  That doesn't look like much!  I took this picture a few days ago and now there is more.  The funny thing about quilting is that you don't often end up making things for yourself.  Sure we have quilts all over the house but I have not actually made a quilt for us for a long time.  Especially in the lead up to Christmas so much of the sewing is for gift giving. I did not think I would have time to make this project for this year.  This one is a Christmas quilt for us.  And it is all made completely from stash fabrics.  The fabric is Fruitcake by Basic Grey for Moda and I had a whole bunch of samples, some charm packs and some yardage bought in the after Christmas sales last year.  I saved it with the intention of it being a Christmas quilt for us.  It matches the pillows I made last year before Christmas.  I really love this fabric because it is different from the usual Christmas palette.

So what is the plan.  The plan is to have a centre bit of half square triangles and then borders and squares until it is the right size.  That's all.  When I just had the half square triangles, Husband was a bit worried thinking that I was making a quilt for an elf.  I promised him it would get bigger!  It will look more or less like a quilt I made for mum.  Have a look.

 I am going to link up with Judy's design wall Monday.  I am on holidays but not from my sewing machine so I think that I will be finished this for sure before the 24th!  Happy Monday!
