Scrap busting... a work in progress

The other day, I think it was Tuesday, I decided that I had to do something about my scrap situation.  It was getting out of control.  Don't get me wrong... my scraps are organized in plastic shoe boxes by colour.  All neat and tidy and organized but I was having trouble closing the lids on some of the boxes.  Yoiks.  So... armed with my rotary cutter and my snazzy new super sized cutting mat, I cut a bunch of strips from small scale print scraps.  And  before you could say, "Happy birthday, Olfa Rotary cutter!" I had a pile of 2.25" strips already to go.

Well, it took a bit longer than that.  I started making little 9 patch blocks on Wednesday and made a bunch more yesterday and then I had 70 of those little suckers.  It just sort of happened in between picking buckets of blueberries.

I used a vintage pattern featured in the July and August Quilty Magazine.  I just had to make it.  Today I sewed all the blocks together in rows.  It looks pretty good up there on the design wall.  I have a thing for blocks on point!  And my scrap boxes are still full! It is a problem!

  5. Looks great - love the blocks on point. At least your scraps are organized - mine are just thrown in totes - sometimes tempted to just give them away! My yardage stash is so huge I don't go to my scraps much. I recently got all my yardage organized but my scraps have been neglected! Not enough hours in the day are there? Have a great weekend!

  7. I am so happy it is blueberry season! I keep thinking I will freeze some but they seem to disappear before I can get them in the freezer! This is a great use of scraps! It is funny though how the scrap stash never seems to diminish!

  8. I love this!! What a great way to go through a bunch of scraps. Mine are organized too...into containers marked by their sizes. I was into the container yesterday to pull some strips to use for binding 6 mini placemats (tea party for a 2 year old). Make two more of these for donations or gifts before you throw your hands in the air and declare the scraps the winner! ;)

  9. This is lovely -- and inspiring too! I have a scrap basket - a laundry basket that I toss scraps into when I am cutting pieces...and then I too have the little collection of shoeboxes, which I mostly use forany kind of rainbow quilt project, as I have found I am addicted to them! Do you think that the scraps multiply at night while we are sleeping?
