August Fresh Sewing Day...

Well, what did I do this past month?  My big finish was It Looks Like My Garden.  I LOVE this quilt and it was wonderful to finally get a values quilt off my mental "must make" list.  I kept up with the Lucky Stars BOM and in fact made my September block yesterday!  Eek!  I am ahead of the game.  I also made 2 quilted tote bags using Elizabeth Hartman's fabulous pattern but I only have pictures of the one.  This is the bag I made for the Pacific Northwest Modern Quilt Guild Meet up which I could not attend but I did want to send a tote to swap.  What a great pattern!  And finally the vintage sheet quilt that I made for the school medical room bed.  Just a simple little bit of sunshine.

Just a few finishes for this month.  It was good to take care of the things that had to be done like bee blocks for That Stash Bee and the apron for my secret partner in the Crafty Cooks Apron and Recipe swap.  I also finsihed my Madrona Road challenge with Madrona Road Baby.  And I finally got to talk about my magazine project and see that published project in the actual magazine!!!!!  My Lucky Stars BOM squares are coming together nicely as are the Road to Fortune blocks.  All in all a good month.

Just Three Goals for April...  check, check and check!

1.  April Bee Blocks for That Stash Bee   2.  Make a baby gift quilt for clever son and his lovely girlfriend.  3.  Finish my Madrona Road challenge quilt which is now officially on the design wall.

What about May?
1.  bee blocks for That Stash Bee and since I am in charge this month, they are already done!  That was easy!  2.  May Lucky Stars Block  3.  At least 4 more Road to Fortune Blocks.

Fresh Sewing Day!

Here are a few of the things that kept me busy this past month.  March flew by.  Not sure where it went.  But I know that I still have much to do in April.  Nothing like the start of a month to set some goals.  In March I set myself some goals that are all done!  I forgot to actually link up with Tracey for the Just Three linky so maybe that will be a goal for April!

1.  March bee blocks for That Stash Bee.2.  Finish the pink wonky star shabby chic gift quilt  Finished but not yet revealed!3.  At least 4 more Road to Fortune blocks.  I think I have 7 now!  Yay!  I started the month with 2!!!

Fresh Sewing Day and Just Three!

1. Inspired Broken Diamonds, 2. Modern Scrappy Bits Swap, 3. Scrappy trip along, 4. That Stash Bee-February

I had a few finishes.  Inpspired Broken Diamonds, A super size triple sip for the Modern Scrappy Bits Swap, 1512 a.k.a. Scrappy Trip Along and my bee blocks.  Not too bad for a short month!

My just three goals last month were pretty straight forward...

1)  Finish my scrappy trip    So done!

2)  Finish my broken diamonds quilt that I have not even shared except for a pile of cut up solid fabric  DONE

3) Do my February bee blocks that are paper pieced!!!!!!  DONE!

Love it when a plan comes together!  

What about March?

1.  March bee blocks for That Stash Bee.

Fresh Sewing Day and Just Three

Not too bad!  Happy February!  A few finishes for the month and fabulous progress on some other projects.  This past month I made and sent off my first ever bee blocks, participated in the Triple Zip along, signed up for the Modern Scrappy Bits Swap round 3 (signs up close tonight!), had a sew in with the Vancouver Modern Quilt Guild, made some pouches, finished 2 quilts and finished all the blocks for my scrappy trip around the world!  Phew!

My Just Three goals for February are pretty straight forward!

1)  Finish my scrappy trip

2)  Finish my broken diamonds quilt that I have not even shared except for a pile of cut up solid fabric

3) Do my February bee blocks that are paper pieced!!!!!!

So easy!

How did I do on my January Just Three?

1. Finish the another star quilt  Done!  Right up there in the mosaic!

2. Complete the new quilt   Yep!  Done... the black, red and grey one.  I jsut have to mail it off!

3. Bee Blocks!    Done and received!

Fresh Sewing Day!!!!

Happy December.  I made a lot of pillows this month.  Some pouches and an ornament.  I was so busy at work and so busy preparing for the craft sale that my quilts took a back seat.  I did, however, finish my Proverbial Sunshine quilt top.  I did take care of some swap obligations but the what I most excited about is the completion of the shelves my husband made for my sewing space.  He says I have to stop talking about it but they make me so happy.  Last time.  I promise.  Happy Fresh Sewing Day!  Linking up with Lynne at Lily's Quilts for Fresh Sewing Day .

Fresh Sewing Day!

I made this mosaic yesterday and thought I was missing a finish.  I was.  I put it down below.  Just imagine it in the centre, in that white space where it should have been.

As I do my little review here, I am thinking... not too shabby for the month of September.  September included school start up which is a super busy time for me in my day job-elementary school principal.  September also included a family wedding and gathering of the clan and all sort of other busy stuff!  So not too shabby.

I finished "Kona Modern Quilts" Modern Baby for a guild challenge.  Cynthia Frenette is the fabric designer and illustrious guild member.  Then I made the "wonky log cabin in blue floating in white" cushion.  Two Jane Market bags and an iPod cozy.  Shabby Chic Baby in pink arrived on the scene much to my delight because I loved making it and it is just too pretty for words.  And I made good progress on my Proverbial quilt.  You can sing if you like.  I also finished "Feels Like Fall" which is the quilt I forgot to include in the mosaic.  I should have made a new mosaic when I realized that it was forgotten but that is a whole other story.  Trust me, it is better this way!

Fresh Sewing Day and Just Three...

September!!!!!!

Well!  Look at that.  Some finishes and some firsts.  The finishes were all baby quilts.  All 3!  The firsts were bunting, a needlebook and covered notebooks.  It is also the first time I made a sleeping bag for Waldo.  And that brought up something that I just did not know.  That Waldo was only Waldo in Canada and the States and Wally everywhere else.  Oh and another first.  I participated in a blog hop hosted by Plum and June.  That is why Waldo has a pillow and a sleeping bag.

As far as Just Three goes and my goals for the last month, I did well.

1)  Finish the Wonky Stars Sorbet baby quilt.  Since this is now on the floor, sandwiched and awaiting quilting, this will be an easy finish.  Done

2)  I want to get a start on the Proverbial quilt which is a quilt along with Krista from Poppyprint!  I have the pattern and have fabric pulled.  I have my quote and am ready to roll.  This is meant to be a slow-ish project so I plan on poking away at this one.  I am most excited about it!     Started and it is fun!

3)  I have to make a swap item for the Modern Scrappy Bits Swap.  Just a little something-something.  That will be fun!  Done.  See that little Mendocino needlebook in the collage?

So those are my Just Three goals.  Easy Peasy.  And they were.  For this month.

1.  Finish the "Feels Like Fall"  quilt.  Just needs binding so we should be good there.

2.  Make more progress on my Proverbial quilt.  So doable.

3.  Make more fabric covered journals.  At least 3 more.  Maybe some Jane Market bags too.

It's Fresh Sewing Day....

It is always fun to visit with projects completed over the past month.  I had quite a few finishes as to be expected with being on holidays in the summer months.

1)  I started and finished Gemstones for a friend!  It is one of my favourite quilts to date and I love all the straight line quilting!  And how much fun to make a quilt for a dear friend and then see how much it is loved!
2)  Moving over to the little pictures at the top right!  Baby quilts for twin boys who entered the world a week and a half ago.  Wonky log cabins with lots of brights in similar but different quilts.
3)  My Stash Mini using some of my precious old and new Flea Market Fancy!
4) And down below and on the left, cross string blocks now happily residing on the guest room bed and this used a lot of my green and blue scraps!  Not enough though, those scraps are still spilling over their tubs!
5 and 6)  Getting a little Christmas-y in July with a pair of table runners!  I have to say it felt funny using Christmas fabrics in the summer but I went for it anyway!

Fresh Sewing Day!

Oh!  I did get some sewing done this past month!  June is always busy for me with school year wrap up but I did manage to crank out a few things despite it all!

1) I made a vintage sheet quilt for the medical room at school.  It is a welcome addition let me tell you!  No more scratchy nasty blankets for little sick kiddos.
2) Lots of cross string blocks.  In fact as of yesterday, I have 65 blocks completed and I think that is a quilt. I will throw them around on the floor today to see what it looks like.
3) The pillow as a gift for my secretary and she loves it!
4) Husband created my wall of fabric with a new built shelving.  I love it!  Of course much folding and visiting  with fabric followed!
5) Name tag.  Yep.  Supposed to look like a chalkboard.  No longer nameless at the Fraser Valley Modern Quilt Guild meetings.
6)  Jane Market bags.  I made many of these this month.  They doubled as gift bags.  Fun!

I did not include yesterday's mop heads.  That would be boring.  Just like our weather.  Boring.  Steady and never ending misty rain.

Fresh Sewing Day and Just Three for May...

Oh, my goodness!  I made my first mosaic using PicMonkey!!!!  So terribly exciting!  I was surprised by all the options and am going to work on changing up my blog header maybe even this weekend.

Well, what did I do this month?  I accomplished all my Just Three for May goals.
1)  I hoped to finish my Ruby Trellis quilt.  Done.
2)  I wanted to finish the Wedding Quilt.  That is it all rolled up because I don't want to spoil the surprise.  It is done.  This is the quilt that I was enlisted to help with.  I thought up the block.  The bride picked the colours and sent out the instructions to friends and family.  Blocks started arriving in the mail and I put it altogether and it looks awesome!
3)  Then I wanted to sew something fun.  I made 3 fun things.  A new dog bed for Webster.  A pillow with a block I had not made before and I also made a Jane Market Bag.

Not too shabby!  I cannot wait to show the wedding quilt but that will have to wait until at least June 11th.

Edited because I forgot to add my goals for June!

What am I going to set for goals for June????  Just three...

1)   Finish the cross string block scrappy quilt because it just looks so cool!
2)   Make something from my Zakka Style book but i have to order some linen
3)  Fill up my new wall of shelves with all my fabric that will most likely be finished this weekend!!!!

and I am sure I will do more than that!



Yesterday, I spoke about my favourite quilting tools.  Several people have wondered about the Hera marker.  You have to check these out if you do not have one.  They are not expensive.  Basically, they are used to mark fabric by impressing a line into the fabric.  The tool has a fairly sharp, narrow plastic edge that will mark a totally visible line that does not impact the fabric over time.  I use it for marking quilting lines most often and for diagonals on HSTs.      


I would have replied to a few of the comments but there are some NO REPLY bloggers out there.  I am not ignoring you, I just cannot reply.  This is the fix, people!!!!!

November and Fresh Sewing Day

I was thinking that I really didn't have too many finishes from October but I guess it is not too shabby.  I finished this one on the weekend.  It is massive!!!!  72" x 84" of batik bento box fun.  I straight line quilted it horizontally and vertically on either side of the stitching lines.  I won't show you the back yet but it is fun.  Pieced with leftover batik scraps and some other fun fabric.  I know you cannot see the small details in the binding print but in many ways the print echoes the bento box pattern.  Cool!  I don't remember what it is called.  I bought the end of the bolt of it anyway!  I had not planned to use it for the binding, just the back but it just seemed to be asking to be the binding as well.

The batiks came from my fabulous local quilt shop's "by the pound" sale so it is truly scrappy.  I think it is just great.
