Sunday Stash

Because it is just so much fun... we have some wonderful camping themed fabric and some rainboots.  The camping fabric is from Clothworks, designed by Richard Neuman and it is so darned cute.  I also picked up a fat quarter of something that tells you not to feed the bears and don't let the bugs bite among other things.  Camping quilt?  Camping tablecloth and apron?  Camping pillowcases?  HMMMMM...  Future I spy quilt???

And gratuitous flower shots... a pink theme.

Have a lovely Sunday!

Flea Market Finds...vintage sewing supplies

Well, you can never have too many needles.  And you never know when you might have a really big sliver or you need to repair a sail.  I don't even know what some of these needles would be used for!  I love the graphics on these very vintage books of sewing needles.  I must have hit the thrift store just when a sewing box of bits and bobs was emptied into tidy packages for me to buy.  In the packages were several spools of thread, some odd buttons, a tiny notepad, a brand new zipper, several diaper pins and then the things I actually took pictures of.  I told Husband that I had enough vintage sheets.  I came out of the thrift store with what looked like a vintage sheet but it wasn't.  It was a "duvet" cover!  Ya, that's what it was.  In reality, it was 2 sheets, sewn together to function as a duvet cover.  2 sheets in one, and a pretty, bright yellow print at that!  I have been turning my nose up at sheets as I really do have a lot of them but this yellow print came home with me!

the flowers are blooming and they go with the sheet!

All in all, a low key week at the thrift store but I never walk away from vintage sewing supplies.

Nice big pin cushion and a lovely tin

Vintage book of needles

And another one!

some of the needles are lethal!!!!

Just in case you needed to know what to do with the heart shaped sequins!

Log Cabin Quilts and Finish it up challenge!!!!!

I noticed last week that Stray Stitches had entered a cute little mini quilt in Quilting Gallery's weekly contest.  She encouraged her readers to vote for her quilt and she won!  When voting for her little quilt, I noticed that this week's contest is for Log Cabin quilts.  I entered this quilt (Cabin in the Hills) in the contest just for fun.  So if you have a minute, pop on over to Quilting Gallery and check out the quilts.  You can even vote for Cabin in the Hills if you like!

Some labels and the next projects on the go...

I am at a strange place with my quilting projects.  The only thing on the go is the Farmer's Wife Quilt Along.  I have been rattling around, staring at fabric, flipping through magazines, and snooping through blogs for inspiration.  I am a bit obsessed with the wonky points on the Card Tricks quilt so being a complete sucker for punishment, I am going to start another one.  The aim is for no wonky points.  We will see how that goes!  I am going to use a stack of lovely romantic florals that I bought at the "by the pound sale" this past spring.  Even Husband had to admit that this is my kind of fabric.  I have been busy today pressing the squares and cutting down the fabric to charm square size.  Lots of cutting.

The next thing on the go will be a vintage sheet quilt for Daughter to drag around camping with her.  I have a stack of sheets pulled with that in mind but have yet to have a thought on what this will look like.  More stewing required.

The other day I made more labels.  I took something quite familiar.  Used this tutorial and made these.

Recycling at its finest.  Moda uses lovely twill tape to wrap their jelly rolls.  I have saved it without a particular use in mind until this... and  I am quite happy to reuse it as a label.

Officially Week 10 Farmer's Wife Quilt Along

I spent some time at the barn this morning pinning all the blocks up for a check in.  They seem to be playing nicely together but I have a lot of yellow.  I will avoid yellow for a while!  Of course, it was breezy so I had to double pin the little blocks.  The dog gave up on me as he lost patience with my strange behaviour.  He thought I was going to do something really exciting like pick raspberries or something. And raspberries just happen to be one of his all time favourites.  It is quite the challenge to pick the berries with him as he grunts and groans to get our attention.  He also picks his own berries.  He likes the biggest ones.  Good grief!

I am 2 blocks ahead this week with a total of 22 blocks.  That gives me some grace for down the road.

Block #8  Bouquet  (and I really love this block!)

Block #16 Calico Puzzle

Block #20  Churn Dash  (this block was one of my Gramma's favourites.  She made a lot of quilts with this one!)

Block #23 Country Farm

In keeping with the Farmer's Wife, yesterday I made jam.  Raspberry Jam.  It looks so lovely in the jars and there is such immense satisfaction in filling the shelves of the cold room.  That wonderful squirrel instinct is alive and well.  Have a lovely rest of your day!

Clovers... Card Tricks? Done!

Another finish!  I am thrilled to bits to say this one is done!  This quilt is made with some April Cornell fabric from Moda that I got at the" by the pound sale" last summer.  Fabric company samples, sold by the pound at my fabulous local quilt shop once or twice a year.  The border is also some April Cornell that I bought as a remnant.  Perfect!

I used a Figtree Quilts pattern called Clovers.  It is essentially the block called card tricks.  I did not read the pattern carefully and messed up on not trimming the little blocks... blah blah.  Long story.  Anyway, the result is my points are wonky.  Heavy sigh.  Does it still look pretty?  You bet!  Did I learn something?  Yes!  Does my mum love the quilt?  You betcha!  So this quilt is going to go and live with Mum.  It measures about 65" x 65".  It is stippled all over in white and backed with a lovely yellow check sheet with one strip of the border fabric down the centre.  It is bound in a woven plaid from the same line of fabric that I just happened to have. It is a very pretty quilt.  And it is done!  This was also the last item on my list for the Finish it Up Challenge!  Wahoo!

I see a lot of husband feet in quilt photos.  Husbands often get recruited to help hold quilts.  This is a picture of my husband's hands.  He was recruited to pound some nails into the barn wall so I can have a semi-permanent display wall for finished quilts on the barn.  He is just soooooooo helpful!!!

I am going to link up to Fabric Tuesday at Quilt Story... check out the other lovely finishes!

Farmer's Wife Blocks... trying to get ahead

Block# 8 Bouquet

Block #16 Calico Puzzle
I have been trying to get a few blocks ahead because I have a funny feeling once I am back to work and school starts up again, I will be very, very busy.  I made these the other morning.  I have to say that the Bouquet block is a particular favourite of mine.  I think it is just cute!  Again, all my blocks are made from scraps.  Bouquet has some Sandi Henderson prints and Calico Puzzle some scraps of Sanctuary.

And other than that it is a lovely, breezy, sunny, and warm first day of August.  The Card Tricks Quilt is now quilted and awaiting the selection of a fabric for binding.    Such choices!

Have a lovely rest of your day!
