Trees for Sale!

I finished this quilt on Friday!  Wahoo!  I love it.  It is a happy hug of Christmas all wrapped up in a quilt.  The fabric is 12 Days of Christmas by Kate Spain for Moda from last season and the pattern is called "Trees for Sale."  I used some bits and pieces for the borders including the green snowflakes which is a Michael Miller print.  So there it is.  Trees for Sale.  I backed it with some dots from my stash with a bit of the green snowflakes.  It looks a little like a present from the back.  I stippled it loosely in white.  The quilt measures about 65" by  65".

Sunday Work In Progress

Yesterday and today, I turned this stack of vintage sheet-ness and also 2 sheets found yesterday morning, into...

this!  Here it is on the downstairs design floor.

I cut 4" x 8" rectangles, along with 4" x 2.5" and 12" x 2.5" strips to frame up the rectangles.  I stuck with yellows but used a fair quantity of solid yellows from my vintage sheet stash for the frames.  The solids often can be found on the sheet or pillowcase borders.  These borders come in mighty handy for sashings etc.  This quilt has 7 blocks across and 10 down.  Vintage sheet sunshine!  I will link up with Judy's Design Wall Monday tomorrow!  Have a lovely rest of your day!

Flea Market Finds on a Blistery Blustery Day

I was a happy camper when I spotted this lovely green glass bowl and wouldn't you know it?  I found the vase at the next thrift store.

And look at how nicely they go together!  It would have been even nicer if I pressed the drop cloth before taking the photos!  

 

It was an awesome vintage sheet day today too!  Husband and I stopped by 3 thrift stores this morning and I found a few sheets at each one.  I LOVE the one on the top of the pile!!!  So much fun.

We were out and about this morning early.  I promised Husband a whole lot of fun.  After the first thrift store, he asked me where to next?  I did not really have a plan.  I said, home?  He asked me what about the promise of fun?  I had to admit that I had lied.  But in a nice, not harmful kind of way.  He suggested the cheese shop.  Who was I to say no?  The cheese shop is right next to a fantastic quilt shop and down the road from 2 very interesting not often visited thrift stores.  Off we went into the rain and the wind of November.  The last thrift store stop is right next to a great veg/deli shop and Husband suggested a picnic.  Why not?  And I remembered that this is the weekend of the bald eagle festival.  The eagles congregate to feast on the salmon that die after spawning.  We had a lovely picnic in the van while watching the bald eagles and the wind and the waves.  Saw tons of spawning salmon and several swans.  Awesome, spontaneous fun with a few thrift shops thrown in there for my thrifty fix.

I did wish at one point for an interpretative sign to explain exactly what the heck the eagles were doing when I realized we were parked right in front of just that.  Oops.  It gave a very clear explanation.  I think I had actually proclaimed that if I were in charge of the world, I would have such a sign.  Then I noticed it.  Oops.

Happiness all wrapped up in a muffin

I just have to say that these are really awesome muffins.  Husband made them the other day and I think we have oinked just about all of them.  Husband found the recipe at his favourite online recipe source, Canadian Living. Maybe what made them the most yummy was that he used Mum's home canned peaches.  She cans the best peaches.  So anyway, give these a try and you will find happiness in a muffin!

On the quilting front "Trees for Sale" is sandwiched, spray basted and ready to quilt.  I  just have to figure out how I am going to quilt it.  Such a dilemma!  Have a lovely Thursday.  Long weekend for me and a whole lot of quality quilting time on the agenda.

Farmer's Wife Check-in Week 24

Block #68 Postage Stamp

Here is the thing.  I did not quite follow the layout for this block.  I noticed that sometimes in the layout, like colours do touch, just not in the same place as mine.  Whatever.  It seems to be quite a random placement so it is not the end of the world.

I have noticed several bloggers are starting to make and use their own light boxes now that winter is near and light levels and weather inhibit outside photo taking.  I am really hoping that I can have my very own light box very soon.  I will have to put in a special request with Husband.

Block #26 Cut Glass Dish

Here is the thing.  I did not quite follow the same layout as in the book.  Do you notice a theme emerging?   This block has at least as many small triangles as Italy's debt in dollars.  Okay, well maybe not as many triangles, but a lot of triangles nonetheless.  I cut this block out while watching the Amazing Race on the TV and obviously my counting skills were impaired.  When I went to sew this together, I did not have enough triangles and I had used up just about all of these scraps.  Major trauma.  So I fudged it a bit and not all of the triangles are from the same two fabrics.  Can you find them?  It is pretty obvious to an expert.  I also had to sew two itty bitty pieces of the brown together to make one triangle.  Now that was small stuff.  Husband says I am insane.  Hardly!

The master chef

I am very lucky.  Husband loves to cook.  He loves to bake.  Yesterday he made 4 batches of cookies.  2 for us and 2 to mail to daughter.  Today he made peach and poppy muffins.  It is a wonder I don't roll to work with all of this.  The peach and poppy seed muffins came to his mind because he said Remembrance Day is coming.  He wanted to bake something that is sort of Remembrance Day-like.  Hence the poppies.  I know.  It is a bit of a stretch but I am going with it.  I am very spoiled.  He even makes my lunch each day to take to work.  How fabulous is that?  I think it is pretty fabulous.  Back to the pizza though.  He makes the BEST pizza.  He has been perfecting it over the years and it is now just the absolute best.  His latest decision is to make small, individual pizzas so that he can customize them to exactly the way I like pizza and he likes pizza.  What a guy.  I am a lucky lady.

 I am now off to enjoy a cup of coffee served to me in his favourite cup because I had a really busy day at work.  What a guy.
