Evolving Baby Quilt...

Okay, this is not a great picture but I wanted to talk about this baby quilt on the design wall.  I keep changing it.  I kept staring at it this past week and decided it was not making me totally happy.  So I added the green pin dots in between each little block and I started feeling better.  I stare at my design wall when I am on the torture cycle (a.k.a. stationary bike).  Today while on the bike, I could see all the blocks I need to move around and tweak to balance all the dots and stuff.  I also want to have all the trees standing upright.  I will fix that.  I guess the design wall is a good spot.  Double benefit.  Exercise and quilt tweaking.

On the exercise front, I also got an extreme upper body workout today because I quilted my Farmer's Wife quilt.  Yep.  I did.  90' square of quilt beast. I can feel the impact of all that pushing fabric in my shoulders.  Ack!   Just the binding and we can call it done!  I cannot wait!

Pretties in the garden!

Flea Market Finds after an exhausting day!

Today I spent the entire day at school for a giant fundraiser!  I am about ready to crawl into a heap and watch mindless television until bedtime but I do have some treasures to share from last weekend.  I also have some treasures that Mum brought along when she came to visit.

First off, some really great vintage sheets!  Woo hoo!

And this sweet little bowl.  It speaks to me of restaurant ware but I love it for it's straightforward simplicity.  It was a mere 50 cents.  Total treasure!

Mum's treasures are all bits and pieces of my Nanna's and Great-Gramma's.  Vintage recipe booklets to add to my collection of such items.  So cool.  Who doesn't need to have a vintage Betty Crocker Bisquick recipe booklet?

And a small catalogue from a nursery from the 1940s!  To think that it has survived in such great shape is a testament to my family's great pack ratty-ness!  And check out the Simplicity Pattern Preview from the 40s?  Oh my goodness, those nipped in waists are to die for!

Have a super lovely evening!  Hopefully I will find my sewing machine tomorrow and get some quality quilting in!

My First Guild Meeting!

Can you read the key chain on the left?  Hilarious!  I won that at the Modern Quilt Guild Meeting last evening.  "and then I quilted the crap out of it!"  Apparently Amy, one of the members, says that a lot and these are very hot little commodities.  Last evening, I attended my first meeting.  Last evening, we had a HUGE thunder and lightening storm with intense rain.  Undaunted, I braved crazy weather and drove off with show and tell and stash items to get rid of.  I had so much fun!  The show and tell was just great!  Lots of super quilting and great ideas.  I took notes of patterns and ideas.  Inspiration with a capital "I". Like this pattern which  looked totally cool when made up with some Amy Butler fabrics!  Fun, fun, fun!  I didn't take any pictures because I was feeling shy but I know lots of pictures were taken.  They will be over on the website soon enough!

I took a load of quilting magazines and some fabric I decided I could live without and came home with some treasures!  Not a lot, just a little.  I also took this bag of scraps because it was left at the end.  It had some nice surprises in it.  Somehow other people's scraps are so much more interesting than mine!

The really funny thing was that I took my wonky scrappy little star quilt for show and tell and one of the guild members said, "hey!  I know that quilt."  Then I mentioned that I do blog and that is how she had met my quilt!  I thought that was really funny.

So there you have it.  What a lovely group of lovely ladies with many, many fabric geeks, just like me! And I have now completed one of my "Just Three" goals for April.

I just have to say...

that these are the most perfect flowers.  Small, bright and prolific.  These perennial primulas live underneath our hazelnut trees in perfect circles.  They bloom early and start out tiny each spring.  They grow and fill out until they form a dense carpet of colour under each of the trees.  Their blooming time lasts well over a month and each spring we marvel at the richness of colour.  They just make us happy.

This makes me happy too.  Husband is perfecting these super-dooper, multigrain, good for you buns.  Yum!

Monkeying around...

I have a bunch of little blocks up on the design wall.  Yellow and green with monkeys.  That was the request for a baby quilt gift for a friend of son's lovely girl friend.  I have lots of yellow and green but I picked up some monkeys for the back and the great dots for the binding.  The monkeys are a brushed cotton.  So soft!

I still have lots of time to change the arrangement of the blocks as I make them.  I am using the really simple 4.5" squares in combination with 2.5" squares.  And we don't know if the wee baby to be is a boy or a girl so the fabric needs to be fairly gender neutral.  Baby quilts go together so fast!!!!!!!  I love it!

And the monkeys are from Deb Strain's line for Moda, Grow With Me and the dots are from Windham and were on sale!!!!  Half price!  Score!!  Have a super lovely evening!

Just Three for April

Tracey is hosting a very doable link up.  Just Three.  That's it.  Just three quilting goals for April.  I can do this.

So what will it be?
1.  Finish my Farmer's Wife Quilt.  Doable. I sandwiched that puppy today after making the back.  All I need to do is quilt and bind.  Woo hoo!!!!
2. Sandwich, quilt and bind my Granny Squares quilt.  Again this should be straight forward and easy because the top is made.
3.  Attend my first Modern Quilt Guild meeting.  Squeal!  I am going to do it.  The meeting is next Thursday evening and I think that my school schedule will totally allow it.  I just have to drive to the next town over but this is totally, absolutely and completely doable!  And it is EXCITING!!!!
