When Mum was visiting at Easter, she brought me her grad dress. She wore in 1955 and as a wee girl, I was quite mesmerized by the froth of tulle with its whisper of pink. It is really quite the thing. She brought it to me because she happened to mention to me that she was going to give it away to the local high school for costumes or something. What!? I would not let her so now it is at my house and I am the keeper of the dress.
My buddy Cynthia just happened to post the block she has in Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks Volume 9 and it just happens to be a lovely vintage looking dress. Maybe a prom or grad dress? Go have a look. The block is lovely and there is a giveaway... just saying. Anyway, I thought I would take a few pictures of Mum's dress because it is just so lovely. Look at the ribbon detail.
And the breeze was picking up the skirt just a wee bit as it hung on the barn wall yesterday evening....
It is gorgeous and I am so glad that you are now the keeper of your moms dress.
ReplyDeleteWill you be able to wear it? What a treasure.
Beautiful dress! What is it with moms and giving their vintage dresses to goodwill when they have daughters and granddaughters. My mom has gotten rid of some beautiful dresses from the fifties, priceless to me.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a stunning dress! Absolutely beautiful! So glad you're the keeper :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness it's wonderful!! The colour is so pretty, love love love it! Thank you so much for sharing it, and for the shout out about my block too! Yay!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful....with dress hanging on the barn wall -- I can see a young woman rocking it with cowboy boots and a stetson swinging to the music! Wonderful of your mom to keep this....a treasure
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful dress! Good thing you were there to rescue it! The ribbon detail is amazing!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's really special Cathy! Love the image of the dress on the barn!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! Very like the Grease prom dresses in style. My Grandma had lovely dresses like this in the 50s, although she was a little older. My Mum was born in 1953. I think they were from balls and the like.
ReplyDeleteI just LOVE these photos! When growing up we were not allowed to dance and I have always longed for a prom dress. This is a beauty.
