A Ty Pennington print from his Spring 2012 collection,
the orange with wee birds is a Lauren and Jessi Jung print
The design is a disappearing 9 patch with a twist and the twist is that I didn't follow any rules. Usually when you make a disappearing 9 patch there are some rules at least. Rules like no like fabrics touch and stuff like that. I didn't do that and I didn't follow that rule on purpose. I wanted the negative space to be more prominent with the lovely Botanics prints. And that is exactly what happened. I started with 3" squares of the prints and made a bunch of little 9 patch blocks, then whacked them into quarters and stitched them back together without too much attention to what went where. I sashed the blocks with linen in 1" strips and then quilted the covers closely about 1/8" apart with a lovely butter coloured Aurifil in 40 wt (#2315).
I am most pleased with the outcome and the couch is looking very happy for summer! The pillows are a big 22" square when finished and are backed with linen and finished with an lapped zipper. So fabulous!
Ooooh nice! They are so bright and happy for summertime! :D
ReplyDeleteThese are so pretty, Cathy! love your fabric choices. Now that I left that comment about how I follow you, I think I have to say that I WOULD follow you around the fabric store so that I could see what you're stashing. :-)
ReplyDeleteThese are fantastic! I'd love some huge pillow like that.
ReplyDeleteSo nice and summery! maybe I need to make a summery quilt! If summer will ever get here in NE as there are freeze warnings tonight so the plants get covered up!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I think I could do nine-patch with no rules - sounds perfect! And it turned out really great :)
