Thrifty Finds and some fabric news at Sew Sisters

I hadn't been to a thrift shop in ages but I managed a quick visit the other day.  I found some vintage rick rack along with some other treasures.  Don't you love the pose on the pattern?  So stylin'!  I think I will practice that pose.  I am intrigued by the needle threader, complete in the box with instructions.  I have yet to try it.  Something tells me the fact that it is all complete in the box means it did not get a lot of use which could mean that the "witch" is not that great.

And the fabric news.  Sew Sisters has lots of stuff in their clearance section for as little as $8.99 a metre and some lovely new Art Gallery fabrics by Bari J and Katrina Roccella.  Go have a look.  To die for.  Yep.

Thrifty finds

A few weeks ago, husband and I managed to find a few garage sales.  I bought this boat load of thread.  Some on wooden spools for next to nothing.  Some old, some new.  Yummy.  And a gratuitous shot of mock orange.  Too bad there isn't smell-o-vision because if you haven't smelled mock orange, you should.  It is that good.

Sunday Stash and some thrifty finds

I did manage to hit a fabric store on the weekend and there was a sale.  I picked up the Windham ginghams and the blue dots at 50% off.  Thank you.  I will take that.  And the Tula Pink from her Neptune line was 30% off so it came home with me.  The low volume fabric is a fat quarter of something but I needed it.  I am always trying to add to my low volume stash.  I tend to use it up as fast as I bring it home.

I met a bunch of my guild buddies for coffee on Friday and managed to find some fun stuff at a church garage sale and then I found the fridgie at a thrift store cheap!  The vintage tablecloth is HUGE and lovely and then the wee dress on the hanger is really a clothespin bag.  25 cents.  It is now filled with cloth pins.  Imagine taking the time to make such a cute thing!  I guess anything to make laundry more fun!  Have a happy rest of your day!

Random Thrifting Adventures... Looking for Salty

The other day I stopped at a thrift store on my way home from school to deliver a vast quantity of leftover lost and found from the school lost and found.  Kids.  Good grief.  How do they loose their pants?  Anyway... since I was there, I thought why not have a look?  Oh My Goodness!  Am I ever glad I did because I found these three beauties.  Sugar, flour and pepper Jadeite shakers.  Eep!  Squeal!  Now I just need to find the salt!  It reminds of a series of  tv ads from a bit ago where the salt content of some food was reduced and the little animated pepper shaker was crying while looking for his buddy, Salty.  I put a link to one with the sad Salty character.  But I digress.

And a quick scrounge in the fabric and notions... zippers at 25 cents a pop and some really lovely vintage cotton.  It is a lovely weave and weight.  Happiness in a thrift store.  Linking up with Cindy for Random Thursday...

Thrifty summer finds...

I haven't shared any thrift shop finds for awhile.  When Mum was visiting a bit ago, we totally hit some of our favourite thrift shops.  I found a BIG bag of wooden thread spools.  Gotta have that.  And then this vintage apron caught my eye.  I think it was about a $1.  It is very cute and I think before I give it to daughter, I will make a pattern from it.  Love the slit pockets in the polka dots.  The fabric is a good weight perhaps even a linen blend.

BUTTONS!  and these ones were sorted into mostly blues with a touch of green.  Nice!

And some snazzy vintage sheets and pillow cases.  I am really picky about vintage sheets because I have a really good stash but these ones hit all the right notes.  Bright, sturdy and fresh looking.

I might just be working on a vintage sheet quilt as we speak.

Road trip... thrifty finds

We went up to see Mum on the weekend.  Daughter and her special someone met us there.  We had a lot of fun and we took a little trip into town to visit Oliver's Kiwanis Market and then over to visit a new flea market.  The Kiwanis Market is a happening place crammed with donated stuff and used as a fundraiser for the club.  It only opens on Saturdays.  It is a must visit whenever I am in Oliver.  Then we went to the new flea market and I bought this wonderful canister, I think you might call it that?  Biscuit jar?  Doesn't matter what it is called, it came home home with me.  It is marked Japan in the base and it is in fabulous shape.  I love it! Husband sat on a husband bench.  He doesn't get flea markets.  He doesn't know what he is missing!  And it was fun being with Mum, daughter and her special someone.

I took these pictures this morning at Mum's.  That is a grape vine in the background.  Proof that we were in wine country.
