Work in Progress Wednesday

1) Currently sitting at 16 blocks and I think I need about 25 is the Another Star quilt.  It is happily poking along.  I am hoping to wham out the last 9 blocks this weekend and then who knows what will happen!

2)  Since I finished the top of Proverbial Sunshine, I am now thinking about the back.  This is a big quilt so it will need a big back.  I had this vintage sheet.  I think I like it.  I will however, need to work some magic as it is not quite big enough despite being a double flat.  This quilt makes me happy, even when skies are gray!  Okay, that was a bit cheesy.

3)  EEK!  What the heck is going on?  Under all those sheets is my sewing table and sewing machine.  Husband is renovating my sewing room.  He started with the kitchen side of the room.  This is our second stove that I use for canning.  He is making it a more official little wee kitchen at one end of the room rather than just having a floating stove and fridge.  Then I will have a huge open wall which will house a HUGE design wall.  Then he is making me another wall of shelves for all that other stuff like thread and quilting books and buttons.  It is just so exciting but right now it is a MESS even though he is the tidiest renovator known!  I put fabric together.  He puts wood together but we both construct.  Kind of cool.

So there.  Works in progress.  Linking up with Work in Progress Wednesday at Freshly Pieced and the Needle and Thread Network.

Making stuff from scraps

I took a bunch of scraps that I had picked up at a quilt shop awhile ago as a scrap bag.  I cut them into strips and I added a solid neutral.  I stitched them together in a pleasing pattern.  Added an interesting back which was really just some of the scraps from the front and a lot more of the solid.  And quilted the crap out of it as Amy Dame would say.

Then I played with my brand new acufeed foot.  It is a quarter inch foot.  How did I live without this?  Perfection for attaching binidngs.  Just have to say that.  Perfection!  Snazzo dazzo... I had a table runner.  Just like that.

A wee pouch...

I downloaded this pattern the other day.  I cut out the fabric and had this wee cutie made in just a short time.  So much fun!  This is the size small pleated pouch and I used some scraps, including some from the Modern Scrappy Bits Swap!  I have to say that the pattern directions are awesome and I made no boo boos when making this.  No stitch ripper required.  Slick and speedy.  Now what am I going to use it for?  Hmmm.  I suggested to Husband that he could pin it to his t-shirt if he needed a pocket to put, let's see... dry wall screws in or something.  He gave me the look.  You know.  That look.

It is just the right size for some tea bags, a gift card, some hexies for a sew on the go pouch.  Maybe all those store cards that take up so much room in your wallet.  Sweet!

Design Floor... Progress!

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a Proverbial Sunshine quilt top!  And it's a big one at 80" by 80".  I keep checking for spelling mistakes.  It is the teacher in me, I think.  I used some of my very favourite fabric, Madrona Road, Wild Carrot in Straw by Violet Craft for Michael Miller, for the horizontal sashing.  I have to stew on the backing for bit and then I will be stewing on the quilting.  For now, I am just going to savour the fact that this in now a top and I love it! Just in case you wondered, this is a pattern by Denyse Schmidt and I have been sewing this as part of the Proverbial QAL hosted by Krista at Poppyprint.

Saturday Stash

It is teaming with rain today. The leaves are blowing out of the trees in soggy drifts so I thought I would share a little bit of fabric fun.  Just to brighten the day!  A few weeks ago the Pink Castle had a pop up sale on some fabric bundles.  I scored two bundles and I don't know why I haven't got a picture of the other bundle but this one is just too much fun.

Have a super rest of your day.  I managed to turn Proverbial Sunshine into a quilt top today!  Can't wait to share!

Finish it up Friday and Just Three

I finished the hand made item for my Scrappy Swap Partner.  I quite like it.  I think she will too.  I did a bit of hand quilting here and there.  You cannot see it well at all but on the spine, I fussy cut a wee snail.  Why not?  I used a bit of the selvage from the Pips fabric just for fun.

I looked back at my Just Three goals from last month.  Hmmm.

1.  How about  I get some work done on my Proverbial quilt.  Ya.  I can do that.    I made great progress with this goal. Yay me!
2.  I will finish the "another star" block quilt that I just started on (the blocks above).  Mmm.  That is a brave goal.

And it was too brave.  Mostly because I got sidetracked with the Scrappy Stash QAL.  A quilt which I have finished but it just hasn't made its blog debut yet!

3.  And I think I should make some zippy pouches.  Maybe 2 or 3.

Oh man, this was a bust as well.  I did, however, make a needle book for the quilt guild draw prize, several Jane Market bags and a covered journal but no zippy pouches.

This month, my Just Three goals will be...

1.  Finish the Another Star quilt.
2.  Finish the Proverbial Sunshine quilt.
3.  Make a few pillows.  Maybe some Christmas ones?

Blogathon Canada is coming!

It's coming!!!!  I was delighted to be asked to help kick off the Sew Sisters' Canadian Quilters Connect Blogathon Canada.  That's a mouthful!  Felicity and I will get the ball rolling on November 19, 2012 and a bunch of Canadian bloggers will round out the week.  It will give you a chance to get to know some Canadian bloggers that you may not have had a chance to meet.   Sew Sisters, a great Canadian quilt shop came up with this idea and it will give you a chance to stop at some great blogs.  Not only that, Sew Sisters will be sponsoring a giveaway on each of our blogs through the week.  I have already picked out some fabric for the giveaway!  So exciting!  That is 2 giveaways each day!  How cool is that?  And you don't have to be a Canadian to win!
