Kona Modern Quilts Baby Modern

It's a wrap!  I finished Modern Baby the other evening and popped it up on the barn wall yesterday after work for some quick pictures.  I used my half yard of Cynthia Frenette's Kona Modern Quilts for Robert Kaufman that I took home for a guild challenge.  The challenge was to make something using the fabric and any other prints from the line or any Kona solids but no other fabric.  I stewed and I waffled.  Then I stewed and waffled some more and then I finally chopped up the half yard into 5" squares and the rest just followed.

I used Kona Artichoke, Ash, Coal, Ruby and Sunflower!  I quite love it.  I used a light variegated grey 50 wt  Aurifil for the quilting.  I quilted straight lines, vertically only.  Snazzy!!!!!!

The back has wide stripes of the solids. Scrappy binding using the same solids and the whole quilt finishes at about 45" by 54".

Have a super Friday!

  2. What a great quilt Cathy. Its just so modern and fun and colorful, sure to be a hit with whoever receives it. I still havent attempted the spray basting, been itching to but dont have the right space to do it. Tried to get hubby to "blow" the garage out so I could do it there but that didnt happen...argh! Happy Friday, I am off to the "Gold Bug quilt show" today here in El Dorado County..fun fun fun!

  11. Thank you Cathy for making this quilt and posting pictures of it! (I found it on Pinterest.) I bought this fabric and was, like you, stumped, thinking I would have to use it as a backing. But you have come up with a brilliant way to use it. Thanks for the picture and details of how you quilted it and how you did the back.
